MEET THE MEMBERS OF THE GERES TEAM IN SOUTHEAST ASIA
Charlotte left her native France to come and work in Cambodia 13 years ago, first with the humanitarian organization Pour un Sourire d’Enfant where she occupied various positions within the vocational training center, and then with GERES, as head of the Southeast Asia Development team. An academic background in agricultural engineering and sustainable development and an understanding of the Cambodian context, culture and language, as well her wide network in the Kingdom, have all allowed her to contribute towards developing locally-relevant development solutions while leading a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team. A mother to three boys, Charlotte is happiest when spending time with family; otherwise, she spends her time on photography and painting.
Bunthoeun has a 26 years’ experience working on natural resource management, leadership and capacity building and community development, helping build capacities of government, NGOs and communities. Prior to GERES, he had worked with the United Nations Border Relief Operation as a Medical Doctor Assistant specialized in Tuberculosis and then he built his career in the development sector with the United Nations Transitional Authority In Cambodia, the Japanese Development Organization, Oxfam America and the Learning Institute. A prolific research contributor, he has written on community fisheries and various rural livelihood topics. Currently, he heads the biomass energy program of GERES in Cambodia.
François-Xavier graduated from AgroParisTech in agro-economics and agricultural development. Then he started his career with the French NGO Initiative Développement during four years on Improved Cookstove topics, mainly in Africa (Comoros, Chad, Republic of Congo) in charge first of technical feasibility studies and then in direct management of an ICS dissemination project. Following this experience, he joined the French Development Agency (AFD) for two years in Ghana, focusing on agricultural and finance projects. He is now GERES Myanmar Country Representative and SCALE Project Manager since November 2016.
Claire GAY, Fundraising and Partnerships Coordinator
Claire graduated from SciencesPo Paris and HEC Paris in Corporate and Public Management. She started her career in the private sector, working for a strategy and management consulting firm, and she then decided to turn to the development sector. She is used to working in a multi-cultural context, notably after an experience at the World Health Organization in Copenhagen. She settled in Cambodia in 2015 and joined GERES as the Fundraising and Partnerships Coordinator. During her spare time, she enjoys practicing many sports, especially running and dance, and playing music.
Yann is an engineer specializing in climate change and natural resource management in tropical forest landscapes, with experience working on Forestry, Agriculture and Energy projects in West Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia. As a Climate and Natural Resources Technical Advisor for GERES, Yann is working to support communities, entrepreneurs and political decision-makers to address climate change issues. He leads research to support project and policy design, implementation of national climate change mitigation actions such as NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action) or carbon finance mechanisms, as well as projects to improve the management of Cambodian forests.
Armand BLONDEAU, Sector Leader Energy and Economic Development
Armand holds a Master’s degree in Strategy & Organization Consultancy from EDHEC Business School, and has extensive experience in the field of development projects, team management, and social businesses in France and across Asia. He started to work for GERES in 2015 for a 2-year mission in Tajikistan as Country Representative. There, he launched and managed the project “Pilot Initiatives for Green Homes in Tajikistan”. He then joined GERES Cambodia specializing in private sector engagement, economic development and access to finance. He likes playing music, cinema and enjoying nature through hiking and photography.
SEAK Soly, Climate change resilience Manager
Soly has more than twenty years of experience in climate-resilient agriculture, business development, forestry, harvest planning, seed policy, import/export and eco-tourism. Before joining GERES, he worked for the FAO, the German and Dutch development agencies, and other major development players. He enjoys visiting rural areas and providing expert insight and advice to local farmers. During his spare time, he takes care of his farm in Siem Reap’s countryside.
Héloïse PICHOT, SEFED Project Manager
Héloïse PICHOT graduated from University Paris X Nanterre and AgroParisTech in Economics of Sustainable Development, Environment and Energy. She started her career overseas working in Vietnam, Indonesia, Colombia and Germany in the International Cooperation Sector. She then settled in Cambodia to join GERES and manage the SEFED project which aims to support sustainable supply chains in the domestic energy sector. During her spare time, she likes to wander off discovering the country she lives in, and she also likes to read, watch movies, and experiment new recipes.
Sota is an Education and Business Administration graduate. He dedicated his whole career to people development and capacity building of entrepreneurs and companies, notably in the creation and development of sustainable social businesses. He has worked for different NGOs like Hagar International and Friends International. He joined GERES three years ago, as a business development and marketing manager, working mostly on improved cookstoves and charcoal projects. Sota enjoys spending time with his family and his favorite hobby is to install and repair electricity networks.
With a main degree in management, Cheth has dedicated the past 20 years to development in Cambodia. His first position in a large Cambodian MFI allowed him to develop his capacity building skills. He joined GERES in 2002 as community trainer on the Improved Cookstoves projet. Today, after 15 year within the organization, he is at the head of the entire Improved Cookstove project, managing a team of 21 people and in charge of a network of over 300 producers & distributors of improved cookstoves in Cambodia.
Narith has been working with GERES for 11 years, at the Technical Research and Development department. As Technical Operations Coordinator, he takes care of 2D and 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor, as well as development of biomass combustion device prototypes. Prior to GERES, he had worked with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, the World Health Organization and a rural development project, doing logistical support and general services work. He likes playing chess and the chapey dongveng (a traditional Khmer musical instrument) and all sorts of sports.
Ratha has been working in Improved Cookstoves project for over seven years doing community development and ICS quality control work. He has had the chance to work with various organizations and companies such as the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), FAO/GTZ, and BN Consult, Cambodia. He comes from Cambodia, and obtained a Master degree in development management from Norton University of Cambodia. He likes football, volleyball, and traveling in rural areas of Cambodia.
Mathilde is currently studying at the Royal University of Phnom Penh to get a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Project Management. She already has several professional experiences in a social business incubator, a fair trade startup and in the public sector as a communication and event manager. Mathilde joined GERES in 2016 to work on fundraising and communication activities. During her studies, she had the opportunity to move to Berlin and Cyprus. She especially likes to explore cities on a bicycle and to go to the seaside.
As GERES Cambodia’s Program Officer, Ratana provides administrative and operational support to all the ongoing projects of the organization. She can rely on here 5-year experience as Program Assistant and Community Development Officer under the ICS-Kampong Cham project. Before joining GERES Cambodia, Ratana had the chance to work with various organizations and companies such as World Vision, GIZ and Plan. She earned her degree from the Royal University of Agriculture of Cambodia. During her spare time, she likes shopping, listening to music, photography and traveling to the rural areas of Cambodia.
Khemary is GERES’ Administration and Finance Manager. She has a long term experience in the development sector, working for the Cambodian Ministry of Planning, a local European Union program for primary education, and the French Red Cross in Cambodia where she spent fifteen years. She even received the National Medal for her active contribution to the Humanitarian Affairs of the country. Besides, Khemary is a fluent French speaker. During her spare time, she enjoys cooking, shopping and travelling to rural areas.
Putheary has always worked in organizations aiming for Cambodian communities’ development, like the Coalition for Transparency Cambodia or the Community Empowerment and Development Team (CEDT). She graduated in 2003 of a Bachelor in Finance and Banking, and she obtained her MBA in 2012 at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh. She joined GERES as the Accounting Officer in December 2015. Out of the office, she likes to relax at home and prepare delicious smoothies, shopping and travelling to the seaside.
Samnang graduated in Business Management from the Asai Sachak Institute of Phnom Penh in 2014 and started her career at GERES where she holds the position of Administration and Human Resources Officer. During her spare time, she likes to chill on the Mekong Riverside, to travel to the seaside, to visit temples and to go shopping. She also enjoys watching music TV shows and cooking for her relatives and friends.
Ka graduated from the SETEC University in Phnom Penh in Management Information System. He joined GERES in 2014 as the IT officer, in charge of solving any problems related to computers, network and software. Prior to GERES, he worked for several local IT companies. Ka wants to keep improving his skills in IT in order to become, one day, an IT teacher. During his free time, he likes to play football and volleyball, and to keep himself informed about new technologies.
Bona has been working for GERES Cambodia since 2005 in Logistic, Administration and Procurement for over five years
and as a quality controller of Improved Cook Stove (ICS) for over six years. Meanwhile, he graduated from Asia Euro University of Cambodia in management in 2014. Outside the office, he likes football, volleyball, and travelling to the rural areas of Cambodia.
